Whittier Youth Nominate Champions On Saturday, June 28th, eighty-eight youth from the Whitter Neighborhood in South Minneapolis were nominated for Neighborhood Champion awards - a special designation for youth who are working to make the Whittier community a better place to live. Each champion was nominated by a member of the Whittier Youth Club, a fun and educational group that plans events that help to better the Whittier neighborhood. Volunteers were on hand to help serve food and clean up as well. One volunteer said, "I enjoyed the opportunity to help out at such a positive, uplifting event. It is good to see how the youth in the Whittier neighborhood and Family and Children's Service are working together to make the community a better place. It was even better to see the youth supporting each other and nominating each other for positive contributions." To learn more about the Whittier Youth Club, click HERE. Photograph by Kelly Cole.
Meet Jenn Richstadt - Volunteer of the Month! Jenn Richstadt is passionate about yoga - and this spring, she had the opportunity to use her yoga skills to help kids at our Brooklyn Park branch! Richstadt learned about Family & Children’s Service by volunteering at an event this winter, and then connected with Stacey Wolfgram, one of our Brooklyn Park therapists. Jenn and Stacey worked together to design techniques for a relaxation and wellness group geared toward children aged 7 to 11. The group met weekly throughout April and May at the Brooklyn Park Branch, and Jenn helped teach the children skills to reduce stress, improve focus and concentration, and cope with anxiety in a healthy way. Thank you, Jenn - you really made a difference! To learn more about Stacey and our other therapists, click HERE. If you have a unique skill that you'd like to contribute as a volunteer, contact Kim at 612-341-1611 or kferencik@fcsmn.org or check out our current volunteer opportunities.
A special thank you to volunteers Mandy Dwyer and Sarah Bonvallet for many of the beautiful photos used on this site. Photos may not be used without the expressed permission of the photographer.
